Quincy Diggs scored 19 points to lead the Akron to 68-58 victory over host Mississippi State on Wednesday night.
Akron (1-0) shot at 48.4 per cent (62) from the field and confused Bulldogs defense all night. The zips forced 19 turnovers, had six steals and blocked eight shots.
Mississippi State (1-1) took the lead early, but finished the first half of the Akron 18-8 run and led 37-29 at halftime. MSU had the lead in the second half.
Bulldogs shoot 34.5 percent from the field (19 55) and is 2-13 from 3-point range.
Zeke Marshall controlled paint to Akron, finishing with five blocks and 10 points before dropping.
